Terms of Service

1.1"Papers" means the peer-reviewed research publications of the Global Flourishing Study and related work that is catalogued, described, or made available through the Services.

1.2"AI Features" means any part of the Services that employs artificial intelligence or large language models, including the research chat, the per-paper deep dive chat, the plain-language summaries and headlines on paper pages, key statistics and findings, pull quotes, reader questions, topic categories and tags, related-paper suggestions, and the AI Guide videos.

1.3"AI Output" means any text, summary, answer, citation, tag, image selection, script, or video generated or assembled by the AI Features.

1.4"Account" means a user account created through the sign-in offered on the Services.

1.5"Conversation Data" means the questions and other text you submit to the AI Features, the responses returned to you, and related records, including timestamps, retrieved passages, cited papers, saved items, and usage counts.

2.1By using the Services you represent and warrant that you are at least 16 years of age, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if higher, and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

2.2If you use the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms, and "you" refers to both you and that organization.

2.3Use of the Services is voluntary. You are not required to create an Account to read published research on the Services.

3.1Certain features, including saved evidence, conversation history, and a larger allowance for the AI Features, require an Account. Accounts may be created with an email address and password, or by signing in with a third-party identity provider such as Google.

3.2You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your Account. You shall notify us promptly at the address set forth in Section 21 if you believe your Account has been accessed without your authorization.

3.3You agree to provide accurate information when creating an Account and to keep that information current. You shall not create an Account using another person's identity or share your Account with others.

3.4Baylor may suspend or terminate any Account, with or without notice, for violation of these Terms, for suspected abuse, or for operational or security reasons.

3.5You may request deletion of your Account and its associated data at any time by writing to the address set forth in Section 21. The scope of such deletion, and the information retained, are described in the Privacy Policy.

4.1Use of the AI Features is metered. Visitors who are not signed in receive a limited allowance; Account holders receive a larger allowance. These limits are established by us, may differ between users, and may be changed at any time without notice.

4.2To apply limits to visitors who are not signed in, we meter use against the network address from which a request arrives, in the hashed form described in the Privacy Policy. This metering operates without an Account. Because multiple individuals may share a single network address, an allowance may be shared with other users of your household or organizational network. An Account carries an allowance of its own.

4.3You shall not evade or attempt to evade these limits, including by creating multiple Accounts, sharing Accounts, or employing automated means.

4.4You shall not use robots, scrapers, crawlers, or other automated means to access, extract, index, or copy the Services or any substantial portion of their content, except for search engine crawling that we permit. You shall not resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute access to the Services or to AI Output.

5.1Substantially all of the material presented on this site is machine-generated and was not written by a researcher. With the exception of the Papers themselves and their bibliographic details, the material presented on the Services constitutes AI Output. This includes the headline, summary, and significance text on each paper page, the key statistics and findings, the reader questions and their answers, the topic category and tags, the related-paper suggestions, and every answer produced by the research chat and the per-paper deep dive chat. Researchers reviewed samples of this material during testing; the volume of the material renders complete review impracticable, and you should not assume that any particular item has been reviewed by a person.

5.2Quoted passages appearing in AI Output, including pull quotes on paper pages, may constitute AI-authored paraphrase rather than verbatim text from a Paper. Such passages should not be treated as the words of any author. Follow the citation and consult the original publication.

5.3The AI Guide videos employ a synthetic presenter and a synthetic voice, working from a script generated by a language model. No person appearing or speaking in those videos is a real researcher, participant, or spokesperson for the Global Flourishing Study.

5.4AI Output is probabilistic in nature. It is assembled by statistical models from retrieved text and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading in ways that are not apparent, including in the manner in which it characterizes, attributes, quantifies, or generalizes the findings of any Paper. AI Output should be treated as a starting point for reading the research, not as a statement of what the research found.

5.5The published paper controls in all cases. In the event of any discrepancy between AI Output and a published paper, the published paper is authoritative and the AI Output is in error. Before relying on any material presented on the Services, follow the citation to the publication of record and consult the original. Every paper page links to its publisher through a DOI.

5.6AI Output is provided for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute medical, psychological, clinical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and no professional relationship is created by your use of the Services. Do not rely on AI Output for decisions affecting your health or wellbeing or that of any other person. Consult a qualified professional.

5.7AI Output shall not be cited as a source in scholarly, academic, journalistic, regulatory, or clinical work. Cite the underlying publication, which you should read and verify yourself.

5.8AI Output does not represent the views, conclusions, or official position of Baylor University, of the Global Flourishing Study, of its collaborating institutions, or of the authors of any Paper. No AI Output constitutes a peer-reviewed statement.

5.9The AI Features are not deterministic, and the same question may produce different answers at different times. We may change, retrain, restrict, or withdraw any AI Feature at any time without notice, and we do not undertake to preserve or reproduce any prior AI Output.

5.10If you identify AI Output that misrepresents a Paper, we encourage you to report it to the address set forth in Section 21.

6.1The Services catalogue and describe Papers and link to the publication of record. The catalogue is not exhaustive, may omit relevant work, and may lag behind publication.

6.2Full-text files are made available directly through the Services only for Papers identified as open access under a license that permits redistribution. For all other Papers, the Services link to the publisher, and your access is governed by that publisher's terms. Nothing in the Services grants you rights in any Paper beyond those granted by its publisher or by applicable law.

6.3Reports and other documents linked from the Services may be hosted by Baylor or by third parties and may be subject to separate terms.

6.4If you hold rights in material presented through the Services and believe that it is presented incorrectly or without authorization, contact us at the address set forth in Section 21, and we will review the matter and, where appropriate, correct or remove the material promptly.

7.1The Global Flourishing Study is a collaboration of researchers and institutions, and rights in the material presented through the Services are held by multiple parties. Cited research papers remain the property of their respective publishers and authors. Research content contributed by the collaborating institutions remains the property of those institutions and their authors. Rights in the website itself are described in Section 7.2. No single institution owns all of the foregoing.

7.2The software, visual design, and site copy authored for the Services are copyright © Baylor University. This includes the layout, graphics, visual design, the selection, arrangement, and presentation of content on the Services, the underlying software, and the AI Features. All rights are reserved except as expressly granted herein. This copyright covers the website as a work. It does not extend to the Papers, to the underlying study data, or to material contributed by the collaborating institutions, in which Baylor claims no ownership by reason of operating the Services.

7.3Subject to these Terms, Baylor grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and view the Services for your own research, educational, or personal use. You shall not copy, republish, frame, mirror, sell, or create derivative works from the Services or from any substantial portion of their content, and you shall not use them to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine learning model, in each case without our prior written permission.

7.4You may quote short excerpts of site copy for purposes of commentary, teaching, or scholarship, with attribution to the Global Flourishing Study and a link to the page from which the excerpt was taken, provided that you do not present AI Output as a finding of the Global Flourishing Study.

7.5If you submit suggestions, corrections, or other feedback to us, you grant Baylor a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use such feedback without restriction or obligation to you.

7.6"Global Flourishing Study," "Baylor University," and associated names and logos are marks of their respective owners. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use them.

8.1Your conversations with the AI Features are not private. If you are signed in, we retain them. We store the questions you submit, the responses returned to you, the passages those responses cited, and any material you save, as Conversation Data associated with your Account. That record is retained as described in the Privacy Policy.

8.2If you are not signed in, your conversation is not saved as history and cannot be revisited. It is not, however, private. As described in Section 8.3, the text you submit is transmitted to our third-party providers, records of your use are maintained for operational and monitoring purposes, and your usage is metered. The information retained, and the applicable retention periods, are described in the Privacy Policy.

8.3Text you submit to the AI Features is transmitted to third-party providers that process it on our behalf. Those providers are identified in the Privacy Policy and process your text under their own terms.

8.4We use this information to operate, secure, and improve the Services, to apply and enforce usage limits, and for internal analysis. Authorized personnel may review it for these purposes. Further detail is set forth in the Privacy Policy.

8.5Do not submit sensitive personal information. The AI Features are a research reading tool. Do not enter personal health information, information identifying other individuals, credentials, or other confidential material concerning yourself or any other person. The Services do not constitute a clinical, diagnostic, counseling, or crisis service, are not designed to receive protected health information, and are not offered as a HIPAA covered entity or business associate. If you are in distress or in danger, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.

8.6You grant Baylor a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, and process the content you submit, for the purposes described in this Section and in the Privacy Policy.

8.7Our collection and handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

9.1You agree to use the Services only for lawful research, educational, journalistic, or personal purposes consistent with these Terms.

9.2You shall not: attempt to identify any individual research participant from published data, AI Output, or any other material on the Services; misrepresent AI Output as a peer-reviewed finding or as the official position of Baylor University, the Global Flourishing Study, or any collaborating institution; use the AI Features to generate content that is defamatory, harassing, deceptive, or unlawful, or to fabricate research claims attributed to the Global Flourishing Study; introduce malware or any other harmful code; probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Services or breach any security or authentication measure; attempt to obtain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data; reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying models, prompts, or source code of the Services; submit input designed to manipulate the AI Features into disregarding their instructions or safeguards; impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure; or use the Services in violation of any applicable law, export control, or regulation.

9.3We may investigate suspected violations and may restrict, suspend, or terminate access, remove content, and report conduct to appropriate authorities.

10.1The Services rely on third-party providers for hosting, authentication, data storage, communications, security, artificial intelligence processing, and embedded video playback. Those parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

10.2The Services link to publishers, institutions, and other third-party sites and embed third-party video content. We do not control that material, do not endorse it, and are not responsible for it. You follow any external link at your own risk.

11.1We endeavor to keep the Services available, but they may be unavailable from time to time by reason of maintenance, upgrades, third-party outages, or other causes. We do not guarantee uptime.

11.2We may add, change, restrict, or discontinue any part of the Services, including any AI Feature, at any time and without notice or liability to you.

12.1Baylor may amend these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be noted on this page and, where we consider it appropriate, communicated to Account holders by email. The date appearing at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last revised.

12.2Your continued use of the Services after an amendment takes effect constitutes acceptance of the Terms as amended. If you do not agree to the amended Terms, you must discontinue use of the Services.

13.1Baylor may terminate or suspend your access to the Services for any violation of these Terms, or for operational or security reasons. You may discontinue use of the Services at any time.

13.2The following provisions survive termination: the introduction and Sections 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

14.1Although we endeavor to provide a good experience in your use of the Services, there are certain assurances we do not make with respect to them.

14.2AI Output, summaries, statistics, tags, videos, and research descriptions are provided for informational purposes only. They do not constitute medical, psychological, clinical, legal, therapeutic, or other professional advice, and they are not a substitute for reading the published research.

14.3We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error free, that the research catalogue is complete or current, or that any AI Output is accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose.

Except as expressly provided in these Terms and to the extent permitted by applicable law, the Services, the AI Features, and any guidance, summaries, citations, or recommendations therein are provided "as is" and "as available," and Baylor University does not make warranties of any kind, express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, or any representations regarding the availability, reliability, or accuracy of the Services.

16.1You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Baylor, its Board of Regents, officers, agents, and employees (collectively, the "Baylor Parties") against any and all liabilities, damages, and claims, including settlement costs and reasonable attorneys' fees, asserted against any of the Baylor Parties and caused by your violation of these Terms or your use or misuse of the Services.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Baylor University, including its affiliates and its and their officers, employees, agents, suppliers, and licensors, will not be liable for any indirect, consequential, special, incidental, punitive, or exemplary damages whatsoever, arising out of or in connection with the Services and these Terms, and whether based on contract, tort, strict liability, or any other legal theory, even if Baylor University has been advised of the possibility of such damages and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. This includes, without limitation, any loss arising from reliance on AI Output.

The Services are provided free of charge. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the aggregate liability of Baylor University, including its affiliates and its and their officers, employees, agents, suppliers, and licensors, arising out of or in connection with the Services and these Terms will not exceed US$100.00.

In countries where the above types of exclusions or limitations are not permitted by law, we are responsible to you only for your losses and damages that are a reasonably foreseeable result of our failure to use reasonable skill and care or that directly result from a material breach of these Terms.

18.1Certain jurisdictions provide legal rights to consumers that may not be overridden by contract or waived. If you are such a consumer, nothing in these Terms limits those rights.

19.1These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

19.2Any action or proceeding arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the conduct or actions of the parties hereunder shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in McLennan County, Texas. The parties hereby submit to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts and waive any objections thereto.

20.1Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Baylor University and supersede any prior or contemporaneous agreements, terms, or conditions, written or oral, concerning their subject matter.

20.2Severability. If any provision of these Terms is declared invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force and effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.

20.3Waiver. No delay or omission by Baylor in exercising any right or remedy operates as a waiver of it, and no single or partial exercise of a right or remedy precludes any other or further exercise of it or of any other right or remedy.

20.4Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. Baylor may assign them without restriction.

20.5Headings. Section headings are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation.

21.1Questions concerning these Terms, corrections to AI Output, rights inquiries, and account deletion requests may be directed to research@globalflourishingstudy.com.
