We identified childhood factors associated with purpose and meaning in adulthood including protective factors (e.g., stable, high-quality relationships) and risk factors (e.g., abuse). Additionally, several demographic characteristics in adulthood showed strong associations with purpose and meaning. Further, purpose and meaning varied considerably across societies, often lower in high-income societies.
